Q: What level of training do I receive
if I join?
A: All training is given at the AZ Post level of instruction.
The instructors are all AZ Post General Instructors.
Q: Can I ride with a deputy right away?
A: You can as an observer with your MCSO ID which is issued after
your first Law & Legal class however we recommend that you wait and
obtain the 'Basic' level of instruction before you start riding with
a deputy.
Q: What are the different levels of
training?
A: The first level is referred to as 'Basic'. This consists of
your first class called 'Law & Legal' and the second class of
Traffic Control. Once you complete these two classes you will
be designated as a 'Basic' level member. The second level is
called 'Intermediate' where you will learn Radio Procedures, Booking
& Search and Prisoner Transport. The third level is APT
(Advanced Posse Training). At this level you will learn
Defensive Tactics, Mechanical Restraints and O/C Spray. After
this level of instruction you can also become Taser weapon certified
and also Baton. The final level is the QAP Academy (Qualified
Armed Posse). At this level you will learn Use of Force,
Weapons Retention and spend a good amount of time at the Sheriff's
Firearms Range. After successful completing this academy you
will graduate and be issued credentials authorizing you to be armed
while on duty.
There are many other training classes offered as well.
Q: Are there any training or
certifications I have to do each year?
A: Yes. We are under the same requirements as the sworn
deputies regarding yearly qualifications. Taser and all
Firearms (handgun, shotgun and Rifle) and MILO (Judgmental Use of
Force) will need to be completed each year.
Q: Does the Sheriff's office offer any
assistance in purchasing uniforms or equipment?
A: No.

over to the sworn academy if I decide to go through the
Sheriff/Police academy?
A: No. But since it is the same level of training many aspects
of it will be familiar when you attend the sworn academy.

Support Posse, aren't there many other posse organizations that work
with the Sheriff's office?

and you should explore and ask questions to many of them.
